Merchants Give Back to Valencia

The Home and School Club is organizing a fundraiser that is both “green” and without additional cost to participants. Families, friends, neighbors and others cam register with select merchants and businesses who have volunteered to “give back” a portion of their sales to Valencia. Last year Valencia earned over $6,000 through your participation in the Safeway eScrip program alone, just for buying groceries!

Participating merchants include

  • Safeway
  • Macys
  • Target
  • Verizon Long Distance
  • Direct TV
  • Save Mart Supermarkets
  • New Leaf Community Market
  • GoodSearch Internet Search Engine
  • Washington Mutual (prior Washington Mutual customers only)

Valencia HSC has made it easy for you to spread the word about this great program!

Simply COPY the following text and PASTE it into your favorite email client, inserting the name of your child and teacher, ATTACH this FORM and SEND the message to your contact list:

Dear Family, Friends and Neighbors

As you may know <student name> is a student in <teacher's name>'s class at Valencia Elementary School in Aptos. I would like to invite you to participate in a very easy and effective fundraiser for the school, which will essentially cost you nothing out of pocket and only take a few minutes of your time. How easy is that?!

“Merchants Give Back to Valencia” is an opportunity to register with select merchants and businesses who have volunteered to “give back” a portion of their sales to Valencia. When you shop these merchants and designate Valencia as a beneficiary, the school will receive cash benefits, all in exchange for just 5 minutes of time it takes to register. Last year the school earned over $6,000 through participation in the Safeway eScrip program alone, just for buying groceries. WOW!

Please take a few moments to register with the merchants listed on the attached form. Most registrations can be done electronically, taking only a few minutes of your time. The more people who participate, the harder the programs works for our school! Thank you to those of you who are already participating!

Thank you for your support of Valencia Elementary School

Sew or iron it to his or her spiritwear or their backpacks and start school off right with the honor of a Valencia Seastar. Learn more!

Mission Statement

The mission of the Valencia H&SC is to fund programs, materials and resources at Valencia in order to support our teachers and enhance the educational experience of our children.

Thanks to the support of the Valencia community and our great volunteers last year, the Home and School Club raised over $80,000 which helped pay for

  • school and teacher supplies, including paper and copy services
  • substitute teachers
  • the Spectra Arts Program
  • science assemblies
  • PE equipment
  • support for Outdoor Science School

Additional allocations of the 2008/2009 funds are planned for 2009/2010 as follows:

  • $20,000 raised in the 2009 “Hollywoods Night’ auction that will be used towards the purchase of new technology
  • $10,000 also from the 2009 auction that is being held in reserve to help balance cuts to the schools operating budget.
  • $13,000 for use in hiring much needed technical support at Valencia. That need is now even more critical since the District’s technology department underwent significant downsizing in the budget process.

We are thankful to be able to provide such a high level of support for our Valencia teachers and our children, even in these lean times, all thanks to your generous support. Amazing!
